Marking Time is the title of Chris Atkins show at Dame Street Gallery Dublin 2 (Feb22 - March 10). The work is an exploration concerning rural decay and our seeming inability to preserve what is already there. The images of old buildings, farms and walkways act as witnesses for that which may disappear through neglect. In our throw away society the beauty charm and elegance of age seems to have become invisible. It is that history both emotional and physical which hold a fascination for me. The atmospheres vary from tough resilience to abandonment. The buildings each hold their own story battling both natural growth and human savagery to survive. They cry out not just to be preserved but also to be given life again.

As a woman concerned with societies view of the aging population and the lack of kindness often shown to us the images also address the problem of age becoming valueless. I think this work is in part a metaphor asking for respect acknowledgement and a general conserving of that which is so precious.
